Summary of The Phoenix Society's Activities and Programs "Through the Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery (SOAR) program, a hospital-based peer support program, the Phoenix Society provides training to burn survivors or their family members who want to volunteer to help others whose lives have been touched by burn injury. Twenty-three hospitals participated in SOAR in 2004. The annual World Burn Congress, a collaboration between the Society, local burn centers and other non-for-profit organizations, brings together burn survivors, their families, care givers, burn care professionals, and fire service personnel. The 2004 conference hosted 630 attendees. The Phoenix Society provides information to the public and burn survivors through referrals to local support, weekly online chats, a national toll-free help line, burn survivor events, a quarterly newsletter, books and videos. In addition, the Society gives college or trade school scholarships to those with burn injuries." Statement from http://charityreports.give.org |
